Birds of Chicago

In 2012, husband and wife singer/songwriters JT Nero and Allison Russell formed roots band Birds of Chicago, featuring their combined voices on material Nero had written specifically for Russell to interpret. Mixing folk, mountain gospel, soul, and rock, the two have toured and recorded widely, most recently on 2018’s Love in Wartime. In 2019, Russell collaborated with Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah, and Leyla McCalla on the Songs of Our Native Daughters project.
